Difference Between Wifi And Wifi Hotspot ?

Wifi

Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi is wireless technology which enable connection between two or more devices wirelessly for data sharing purposes. Wi-Fi is a simple, cost-effective way to connect to the Internet, to other computers and to other Wi-Fi-enabled devices (such as Mobile Phones), without the need to physically connect wires between the two computers/devices.

It is now being used by millions of people using various devices such as personal computers, laptops, pdas', printers, camera, games, mp3 players etc.

A wireless network uses radio waves, just like cell phones, televisions and radios do. In fact communication across a wireless network is a lot like two-way radio communication as follows:

1. A computer's wireless adapter translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.

2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired ethernet connection.

The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter. There are three most important items which makes Wi-Fi working in your laptop or desktop. These are :

•Radio Signals

•Wi-Fi Card which fits in laptop or computer.

•Hotspots which create Wi-Fi Network.

Wifi Hotspot

A Wi-Fi hotspot is created by installing an access point to an Internet connection. The access point transmin wireless signal over a short distance, typically covering around 300 feet. When a Wi-Fi enabled device, such as a Pode PC, encounters a hotspot, the device can then connect to that network wirelessly.

Advantages of Wi-Fi

 (i) It is easier to add or move workstations.

(ii) Installation is fast and easy. (iii) Access to the network can be from anywhere within range of an access point.

Disadvantages of Wi-Fi

 (1) As the number of computers using the network increases, the data transfer rate to each computer will decrease according

(ii) Security is more difficult to guarantee and requires configuration.

(iii) Devices will only operate at a limited distance from an access point.
